The Great Pumpkin Derby

When: Sunday 10/8 from 2-4 pm
Where: Dunsmore Park behind the baseball field

This is our fall recruiting event, it's our chance to show our friends and classmates what we do in Cub Scouts. Bring a friend or three!  

What are Pumpkin Racers?



Pumpkin Racers are vehicles constructed from pumpkins or fall gourds. Pumpkin Racers come in all different shapes, sizes and speeds. The goal is to roll your Pumpkin Racer the farthest distance down a hill.

Pumpkin Racers
1. The body must be constructed from a pumpkin or gourd.
2. Pumpkins may be carved or used whole.
3. Axles can go through the pumpkin, or the pumpkin can be mounted on casters or a board with wheels.
4. All types and sizes of wheels are legal.
5. Racers must be powered by gravity and the slope of the hill.
6. Make your own at home or you can purchase wheels at Harbor Freight, Amazon, or your local hardware store, 
OR....
Come at 2 pm and we can make them together with Pack-supplied materials (we will have pumpkins, axles, wheels, and decorations).

Please note that pumpkins will likely take damage while racing!
Please take all pumpkins home with you for disposal.

How will the race work?

1. Pumpkin Racers will race in heats down the hill.
2. There is no penalty for Pumpkin Racers bumping into each other.
3. Pumpkin Racers will be released at the top of the hill at the signal.
4. The race officials will determine a winner, based on distance traveled.
